Memorial Day

I'm wearing the Indian Remy Body Wave, and it's got to be the best wig I've ever had. The reverse ventilation makes the hairline look so realistic:

The hair is a bit darker than a #2, but it's lovely. I have to take care of this wig. No cutting off the nape, no cutting of the hair, No coloring it... maybe a couple of sprays of the Sun In.

I got this wig from Lace Beauty Secrets From A 2 Z.

Memorial Day Weekend 2010

We went to see Sex and the City 2 tonight. I'm still processing it. I thought the Abu Dhabi portion was too long. Aidan looked gorgeous, Big looked thinner, not enough screen time for Steve, great scenes for Charlotte and Miranda, hot guy for Samantha, Smith looked gorgeous, Liza Minnelli looked just like her mother Judy, not enough of Penelope Cruz (she and Big should have had an almost affair), I totally missed Mariah Carey (just as well too), and Carrie was Carrie. I'll get it on DVD just because it's SATC, but the first movie was better... there, I said it. I wish I could walk in heels like they do.

I got a new LF wig delivered today, from Lace Beauty Secrets From A2Z. It is gorgeous. It's an 18" #2 Indian Remy Body Wave. I've never had a body wave before. The cap is perfection (meaning no PU). Charlotte (the owner) is great. They are based in Washington (state). She also included 99% alcohol, a 2" self adhesive wrap, a tan wig cap, orange wood sticks, a 1oz tube of Vapon, a pkg of Supertape, a small bottle of Nearly Natural Softening Spray, HPH Knot & Tape Tab Sealer Spray, and a tube of Fray Block. She hooked me up! Here's hoping to adding her as my new vendor. In turn, I'm going to make her a couple of application videos tomorrow. I'm so excited, because I will be able to attach my nape. I concede - the wigs look so much better with the napes. I'll just have to deal with the pulling of the nape hairs. I haven't had a new wig since the curly malaysian debacle. I've got the hybrid on the canvas wig head right now ready to be ventilated. I sewed the lace onto it, but that lace (from ebay) looks just like the lace I bought from Beverly's Fabrics and Crafts. My angel mama Dede (Nrrrlkl from YT) is sending me some good (authentic) lace.

I'm definitely wearing this wig to the Rush concert (Aug 9th).

Back to the Drawing Board...

Eventhough I did a great job on my cornrows (imo), the style didn't work out for making a head template. I shouldn't have made the ponytail on top of my head. I don't know what I was thinking. I'll try it again next week. For this weekend, it's back to the curls:

I think the pronounced color in the back is so cool. Once it's shoulder length, I may blonde some of the strands out. That last picture looks like I'll be textlaxing soon, but I'll hold off as long as I can. I have to fix the three wigs I still have, and that's going to take awhile, because I'm still learning to ventilate.

Happy weekend!

Thursday's Adventures

I can't help it. When they're not fighting, they're always posing.

I braided my hair up for my next application, but also to make a head template for my first attempt at making a wig from scratch. I think this is my best braid job thus far:

The object is to keep my hair braided for as much as I can. I'm on such a great growth surge. I'm back on the Biotin, but I don't know if it's doing anything.

New Pages!

Blogger has introduced individual pages in blogs! It's a bit deceiving as the page doesn't change, just the middle part, where the actual blog is. All my interests have their own page. I'll put a teaser on the home page, and hopefully the reader will follow the link... I hope.

Wrapping Up The Weekend

I can't stop taking pictures of the babies!

Tonight, we had sushi. I don't know what to say about sushi. I keep trying. I did like the octopus salad, if I didn't look at the tentacles. It's the seaweed that throws me off.

Tomorrow, I begin to ventilate. I have mostly all of my wig making materials, except for the magnifying lamp. The lace is wonderful (I won off ebay, a whole yard, for $29, which sells elsewhere for $88 or more), I have the pins, the clips, everything. I do need new needlenose pliers, and a plastic organizer. I will walk to the post office tomorrow, to mail a book to Rex, then I will come home and get started. I do need to make a template of my head, but I have a unit on my head... hmmm... I would like to make a workstation eventually, but the apt is too small. A desk where I can have a hackle and my light with a power strip, and storage space. I'm so excited.
I'm going to start by adding lace to the back of my units, then ventilating it.

This is going to be a good week.

The Babies Are Wearing Me Out!!!

The babies are wearing me out. I can't stop taking their pictures:

My supplies are trickling in. The hair and the drawing cards came yesterday. I'm waiting on the magnifying lamp, straight pins, and hammer. I have enough clips, so I don't need anymore. I just need lace and the blue paper. Nrrrlkl (my adopted teacher) says I can use any type of paper. I'm thinking wrapping paper. I won't order the lace until next month. I wish the fabric stores sold the type of lace we need.

Meet My New Babies!

Cygnus
Lyra

Both names taken from a Rush song. Cygnus was pre-named, but Lyra, well, we had to see what her personality was. Lyra is so sweet and nurturing, and Cygnus is spicy, curious and playful.

She's Crafty!

It's project day! Andrew has turned our kitchen into a microbrewery, and I've immersed myself into becoming a wig master. My canvas head, needles and needle holders came yesterday. The needles are so tiny:

I got the canvas head and needles/holder from His & Hers (www.hisandher.com). The ventilation video is great. They teach you four types of knots: single, double, split, and double split knots. The rest of my supplies should be coming within the week: a set of drawing cards from His & Hers; virgin indian and virgin malaysian hair from Rex; straight pins, tack hammer, magnifying lamp, and clear thread from Amazon.com; I still need swiss lace (from ebay) and blue craft paper (from Beverly's). I need to fill in the bald spots on my CLW virgin indian. The first two full wigs will be mine. Then I'll make up about 5 to start off with. Only virgin indian and virgin malaysian.

I like my hair today:

I keep going to the Nexxus Humectress bottle, because it has a pump. I'm running out though... and the bottle was around $32. I'm going to use the Mane N Tail in the pump bottle next. I'm making a promise to myself to use up all my conditioners before I buy something new. Yesterday, I was able to part it down the center, spray it with my conditioner/water mixture, and with the Denman 7, brush it into two low curly puffs. I didn't take pictures. I'm loving the versatility.

I'm going to take a nap!
"You take a nap-a, you don't move to Napa!" - Carrie Bradshaw, SATC

Okay... Finished!

Now I'm going to get grape/wine themed stuff... vines, grapes, etc.

Painting Hijinx!

I pulled the blue painter's tape off and this is what happened:

So now I have to paint those non purple edges white! UGH!!! I'm so not Martha Stewart!

Waiting for the Paint to Dry...

I haven't neglected my hair. I mainly let it do its own thing. I don't comb it, but I wet it and combed some MegaTek through it today. I'm so in love with my hair. It's doing what I've always wished it to do... had I had the patience to let it. Maybe my hair is the metaphor for life - just let it be. Who knows...

I'm about to order my ventilating supplies. Just the canvas head, needles (and holder), the dvd. I'm on the fence about the drawing cards. I'm going to order the hair from Rex. Here goes!

I'm finishing the painting today. I love looking over, through the kitchen door and seeing that pop of color. Who do I think I am???

Accent Wall Progress So Far

This is just primer. I didn't know that the hardware store tints it the same color as your main paint. Pretty cool.

Already, the neighbors are loud and irritating. I like quiet, and they're screaming and hollering over some stupid sporting event on TV... now that's a license to play my music in a regular way.

Still Unpacking... ugh!

We're still unpacking. Everything is slowly moving into place. I haven't had a unit on since April 15th! I'm loving wearing my own hair out. I've learned that it's better when I don't comb it. When I do comb it, it's too afro-y. I love being able to shampoo or co-wash in the shower, shake the water out of it, and go. Next year, it's going to be so pretty.

I'm about to paint our kitchen wall lilac. I'm sick of white walls. I will post pics.

Back to the unpacking... I have too much crap!
