I'm So Mad At Myself!!!

Okay, I did what I said I wasn't going to do... I textlaxed! And guess what? Gobs of my hair came out! My precious hair.... I'm not bald or anything, but gobs! That was my lesson learned. That's what I get. I don't want to see another bottle of relaxer in a loooooooong time! Totally my fault. I'm trying to figure out what did it. I'm wondering if it's because I Mega-Tekked the other day. Maybe my hair was still weak from the coloring fiasco last month. I think I'm over proteined. After I rinsed out, I put more Mega-Tek on the ends (as opposed to the roots) and slathered Silk Elements Luxury Moisturizing conditioner on my hair (sitting with it on now). I'll rinse and let it air dry. The only thing I'm doing next week is braiding up and slapping a wig on. Big lesson learned. I will diligently take the biotin and drink water. Also on payday, 2 big bottles of Nexxus Humectress ($32 each).
I just uploaded the pics above. From the pics, I can't see the breakage. That damn relaxer is like crack... must.... stay away... from .... the jar...

I Can't Seem to Catch My Breath!

So thankful to finally have a job... my mild Aspergers makes it hard to adapt to the shock to my system (too many people, too much talking, not enough training, too much phone). I'm just trying to take it one day at a time. I'm actually losing weight too! I'm fitting my old work clothes really well, at least the pants, but my upper torso is too much for my pretty button front shirts that I've never been able to wear (sounds like a trip to Dr. Yoho, the liposuctionist, next year). I think I'm losing weight because we've really stepped up the walking and we got a treadmill. I never was an overeater, so eating too much was never my problem. My problem was not eating enough, for fear of overeating - vicious cycle. Anyway, things are going good in this area.

We had a nice Saturday in San Francisco. We spent the early afternoon at Ocean Beach (on the ocean side of the Golden Gate Bridge). After the beach, we went to Sausalito, just to see the sunshine. It's so beautiful. Then we came back across the bridge and drove down crazy ass Lombard street (that's shaped like a Z). After that, we got a wild hair and decided to find LucasArts (LucasFilms and ILM). Lo and behold, we found it:

We ended the day by eating 3lbs of my favorite butter/garlic soaked crab at The Crab House on Pier 39. We were pre-celebrating our 2nd anniversary and it was so fun. I love Andrew!

My hair... MY HAIR! I need to put on a wig because I'm getting that "do something to my hair" jones. Since I'm working now, I can freely buy a wig if I want to. I've already "prepped" my co-workers, and it's no biggie to them how I wear my hair. It's been so hot here for too many days, so I didn't want to be bothered with glue, tape, clowning, and itching. I've been proudly wearing my wash and go's daily. Nothing is more convenient than wetting my hair, and dousing it with whatever conditioner is on deck. No curling. Sometimes I'll get fancy and wear a headband! I'm too tempted to textlax again, but it's too soon. I'm seriously going to wait until August or longer (since I'm wearing my IRBW to the Rush concert). I'm really jonesing for a 12-14" virgin malaysian cut into layers with long bangs. Maybe a 14-16". Maybe both. I don't think my new vendor is selling anymore (wtf?) so I'll go back to Rex. I think I may do customs for these new wigs.

I almost forgot to report: my BHM friend, Tootsie, introduced us to a method her mom uses. She sews a strip of elastic between the nape and the ear and attaches it to the other side. Then she sews wig clips at the temples. This enables the wig to stay on WITHOUT GLUE OR TAPE.... let me repeat this.... WITHOUT GLUE OR TAPE! I purchased some elastic yesterday (3/4" width) and I dyed it with the ever universal cocoa brown Rit Dye. I'm going to make a video of me sewing it onto the lace. I may do this next weekend, when I'm off from work. I hope this works. If it does, it will an unprecedented step forward in the world of Lace Wigs. Although the BHM has more than enough unnecessary drama, I love it for the innovations the women come up with. I'll keep you posted, in my YouTube sort of way.

My latest obsession: Batman TV episodes, circa 1966-1968 on YouTube. I've got to get my spending under control, so I can get my credit back in order, so I can buy me an old Jeep Wrangler. I did splurge and buy those Madonna motorcycle boots, but ever since the company charged my CC, I haven't heard from them. I'm getting suspcious. I'll give them another week before I put the smack down. After than, no more extraneous spending... other than the Halle Berry Air Rift Nikes, that are so freakin' hard to find. Hey, I ain't working for nothing! My personal recession is over!

The Weekday Grind

I'm about to start writing (no matter how bad it is, in my mind at least, because it's not flowing). I just wanted to say how orgasmic my new goal picture is. That's the hair I want. I don't care how long it gets (I'm never cutting it so...). I think SOMETIME NEXT YEAR, I'm going to dye it honey blonde (Dark & Lovely). With my hair being as dark as it is, it shouldn't lighten up to a honey blonde. It will probably be darker. I can't wait.

I love my hair journey. In just 5 months, I'll have celebrated my 1 year big chop anniversary. It feels easy, thanks to lace wigs. I could never really do the weave thing. I was embarrassed to wear the BSS wigs because they just didn't sit natural on me. I did the bonding thing a couple of times, because it would lay flatter, but I was still limited with styling choices. Lace wigs kicked the damn door down when I discovered them. I will always wear them when I want my hair to be a little longer than it is. Now that my hair is long enough, I'm thinking about getting a curly wig and sewing it to a perimeter braid and really wearing it for longer periods of time, like a month. Maybe like a 12-14 inch; something that hits on the shoulders. Then I would remove it, clean it, clean my head thoroughly, rebraid my hair, and re-installing it. I could do away with the adhesives and tape. The seed has been planted.

Speaking of lace wigs, I'm putting the hybrid (or the virgin indian) on Wednesday. We're going over to his relatives house, and they've only seen me in wigs, and I don't feel like explaining what my hair is doing.

Here's a special shout out to my FAVORITE natural curly girl, Terri LaFlesh. I stumbled upon her website Tightly Curly. She's the reason why I'm a conditioner junkie and why I purchased a Denman D3 brush. Her blog is fabulous. I just found it. It should have been the first blog I subscribed to. Her hair is AMAZING. She's coming out with a book, and I'm definitely buying it. She's the one that inspired me to grow and love my own hair. She's also a writer, so she's inspiring me in that area also. Please check her out.

Off to write!!!!

Why do I wear Lace wigs? Freewill!

To the poster of the comment in which I accidentally deleted (please repost so I can publish it), I wear lace wigs because I like them and they protect me from wrecking my own hair, especially while it's growing out. After I saw how my hair grew from cheek length to chin length last year, with the help of lace wigs, I will continue to wear them as a protective style. I like straight hair and I like wavy hair. I also like my own tightly curly hair. If I can achieve all those textures/lengths without putting heat on my own hair, with the help of lace wigs, then that's what I'll do. I don't like the awkward short length hair, where it's grown out of the intended style. It has nothing to do with embracing anything. If I don't want to walk around looking like Celie from The Color Purple, then I don't have to. I'm not one of those militant happy to be napptural girls. My hair is my hair, and I will do what I please with it. My boyfriend loves me, regardless of what I do with my hair. As long as I'm happy, he's happy. He likes the variety of the wigs I wear. He's not all caught up in "running his fingers through my hair" contrary to popular stereotypical behavior of white men. I believe in FREEWILL, and will do as such. I don't mindlessly follow other people, I do my own thing. I march to the beat of MY drum. If other people like the sound of that beat, then that's good too. I'm informed, I research, and I read. I follow a lot of natural hair blogs, and I appreaciate everyone's individuality. You do you, and I'll do me. If this works for me, and it does, as I've said many times, why should it matter to other people what I do? If it helps them, I'm happy too. Rant off.

I had to do an emergency lift off on the back nape last night. I think I tacked it down too far, and it was rubbing and scratching my neck. I think I'm just going to lay it back down with 1 layer of MLCA and Super Tape to see what it does. I used some old hair conditioner and 91% alcohol to lift it. The WNST didn't want to lift for anything. Swimming should be fine with the WNST, Vapon, and MLCA combo.
